Self-destructive tendencies

I don’t understand how people can be so utterly stupid.  Haven’t we been down this path before – with predictably zero success?

David Streitfeld feels guilty.  He thinks he is personally responsible for the failure of bookstores in the U.S. because he buys books for pennies online.
But he also posits that this online bargain hunting is the cause of the decline of the publishing industry.  Which is arrant nonsense.
Yes, of course bricks & mortar bookstores have overheads [...]
