What is it about looking at the colors of fall that is so pleasing to the soul and psyche? Why do people spend so much money to travel to New England or northern Wisconsin to look at the trees? It feels good, that I will admit, but why? Why is gazing upon, drinking in the glory of fall so profoundly uplifting and rejuvenating? What we are admiring is decay and senescence, after all.

Maybe it’s because outside of flowers both Spring and Summer are all about green, while Autumn is all about fire reds, oranges, yellows and such. There’s just more going on.. brighter and lighter colors which capture our eyes.
The monochrome of summer giving way to the fireworks of fall…
I think it is a desperate attempt to soak up all the color in the environment before the monochromicity of winter sets in.
