Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama, the committee’s leading Republican, said just before the vote that he was compelled to oppose the nomination because of [Sotomayor’s] “liberal, pro-government ideology.”

Why is it that justices are only “activists” when their decisions do not support some sort of right-wing agenda, but they are “Constitutionalists” when they do?
And why is Sen. Jeff Sessions such a dork? Sotomayor is easily the most centrist jurist put forth for the Supreme Court in a decade.
It’s not just Sessions who’s a dork – the GOP’s current strategy seems to be knee-jerk opposition to anything Obama or the Democrats put forward, just on principle. Well, on principle, IF the GOP had any principles.
