I just saw the most hilarious juxtaposition on Atwood Avenue.
A Yugo – a surprising sight in itself, as I thought they had all collapsed into heaps of rusty metal years ago – driving along, bearing collector license plates.
Just to clarify, this was clearly an old, used, beat up Yugo. These cars did not even start out looking good:
(life size image (not really (but close!)))
Designated as a collectors vehicle:
Granted, the requirements for a collector plate are simple: the vehicle must be 20 years old or older, and unaltered from the manufacturer’s specifications.
However, the fee for these plates is $200. Since the purchase price for a new Yugo never topped $4000, that seems an awfully steep payment to indicate that one is driving an original, unaltered Yugo, n’est pas?
I still remember the Yugo dealership in Jacksonville, Florida, way back in the day.
Any given day you could drive by and see someone outside with a charger trying to get one of the beasts to crank.
Good times…..good times….
Wasn’t there a problem with Yugos being blown off bridges?
That I don’t remember, but I do remember Leigh having to put tractor weights in the back of her Camaro to keep it from fishtailing across the road.
